Teachers and leaders serving in dual, bilingual, world language, ESL, and monolingual settings have a very important and difficult job. Regular interaction with and mentoring by experienced professionals in the classroom, school, and district environments can make a measurable difference in student academic performance and staff morale.

Teachers are often encouraged to visit other classrooms as a means to grow professionally. Without guidance and protocols in place, the process may not result in a change in practice. Through the guided classroom observation, teachers and/or leaders will walk away with specific understanding of what was observed and how it can be implemented into their own practice.
The C6 Biliteracy Framework: Instructional Rounds allow administrators and school leaders to engage in in-depth learning about best practices for dual language instructions via guided classroom visits (remote or in person). Through the use of the C6 Biliteracy Framework, participants will be able to experience first-hand biliteracy instructional practices that align with the recommendations in Guiding Principles for Dual Language Education: Third Edition.
Dr. José Medina: Educational Solutions has supported the strengthening and alignment of the bilingual programs throughout the district with the implementation of the C6 Biliteracy Instructional Framework. With this ongoing collaboration and work, our teachers are planning and delivering lessons in both program languages that include content, language, and culture targets as well as creating learning environments that are linguistically and culturally sustaining.
Dr. Medina’s integrity and honesty around his own experiences as an emergent bilingual and his extensive knowledge of research around dual language and experiences as both a teacher and administrator, is equipping all of our stakeholders with a deep understanding of practices that are key to the success of our students.
It has been an honor to learn with and from Dr. José Medina the past 4 years at Dalton School Hong Kong. By leading and serving with authenticity, wisdom, and advocacy, Dr. Medina connects with educators in a way that few can. Much like one of his influences, Paulo Freire, Dr. Medina inspires and is unafraid to dismantle systems of oppression and build individuals and communities up through relationships and a spirit of service.
